Available Dogs arrow KIYA (GH-1030) – COURTESY POST for GOLDHEART

KiyaGH1030This is Kiya. She is a 7 year old Egyptian princess who endured a 17 hour plane flight to a better life.  Kiya loves to be touched, scratched, petted, and fussed on – in fact, she will insist on it if she sees you are not busy doing anything else.

She is very quiet; in fact, she rarely barks. Her leash manners are very good. Kiya LOVES her walks! She will play when engaged, but doesn’t quite get the concept of fetch and return yet. She is shy when meeting people, but is friendly and will warm up eventually. Everyone who meets her says she is just as sweet as can be.  We originally thought she had a high prey instinct, but that has proven to not be a reality. She will follow a trail, but if diverted she will let it go.

Her main issue is that she must be carefully introduced to other dogs. For this reason, exercise in a dog park is not an optimal option. A secondary issue is that she still has some isolation anxiety. When left alone for more than a few hours Kiya will find any opportunity to get into mischief. Her main focus seems to be food items or other items that have a food smell. If these items are kept out of her reach, all should be well. There were some KiyaGH1030_2housebreaking issues when she first came to us, but that seems to now have been overcome. She will let you know when she needs to go out – usually by coming up to you and staring at you or getting your attention and walking towards the door.

Kiya would love a home where her people are home almost all of the time and can walk her several times a day.

If you are interested, please complete a GOLDHEART ADOPTION APPLICATION at https://goldheart.org/adopting-a-golden/adoption-application/. There is a $30 non-refundable application fee that must be received before the approval process starts. The approval process can take several weeks since we rely on an all-volunteer support network to process your application, conduct the home visit, and check references. If approved, you can then inquire about Kiya if still available, and you can also inquire about any other available dog that is looking for a forever home. Thank you for your patience and understanding
