Election of Officers

It’s time to cast your ballot in the 2018 elections of officers for the GRREAT Board of Directors.

A total of two board positions are up for election this year – Vice President and Secretary. You can vote for either or both positions. Officers are elected to the GRREAT Board by the entire membership. Voting is open only to paid-up members.

Why Vote?

The Vice President and Secretary play an important role in communicating membership views and opinions; participating in day-to-day affairs; and setting strategic direction for the rescue.

Voting Process:
You may vote in one of two ways:

  • Vote electronically by clicking on the attached ballot. Electronic voting will be open until 11:59 pm on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
  • Vote in person at the annual meeting of the organization, to be held in McLean, Virginia, at Noon on Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Even if you plan on attending the annual meeting in person, we encourage you to vote electronically in advance to ensure that your vote will be represented should you be unable to attend. If voting electronically, please refrain from voting at the meeting, if you decide to attend.

Candidate Statements:

Katie Lenss:

Bailey small picOver the years I’ve been conducting foster and adoption home visits for GRREAT and have served as Secretary since 2016. I am interested in continuing to serve as Secretary because I’m passionate about golden retrievers and want to continue to help GRREAT achieve success. As Secretary I have been intimately involved with, and have offered my expertise to, Board discussions ranging from strategic planning and fundraising to discussions on events, intake, and medical issues.

My husband and I adopted Bailey (15-014) from GRREAT in 2015, and he became the self-appointed bodyguard, official big brother, unofficial babysitter, volunteer food taster, and favorite plaything for our daughter when she was born.

Karen Proffitt:

karen pic smallIn 2014 when I moved to the DC area, I looked for an organization that rescued Goldens that I could support and volunteer for. I found GRREAT. Over the past four years I have volunteered for GRREAT and have been a sponsor of the annual walks. I also am proud to drive around displaying my GRREAT license plates to show my support for the organization. As a passionate Golden lover and previous dog mom of two Goldens, I want to donate my time and the skills I have developed in my successful career in sales, marketing, executive coaching and sales management to help GRREAT thrive and rescue even more Goldens in need. I am a hard worker and out of the box creative thinker, who over my career has developed and run marketing campaigns, managed and trained successful sales people and coached individuals to achieve more.  I am looking forward to putting my talents to work for a great cause and working with Barbara and the members of the GRREAT team to strengthen the organization and help beloved Goldens find their forever homes!

Jennifer Vitalbo:

I have been happily serving as the GRREAT Vice President for the past 4 years, and seek to continue supporting the organization closest to my heart. I first got involved volunteering with GRREAT over 8 years ago, then fell completely head over heels with the adoption of my first Golden, Molly, in 2010. While I mourn the way-too-early loss of Molly in 2016, I continue to soak up the love from failed fosters such as Winston and Aspen, and of course my “honorary” GRREAT Golden, Oliver. One of the best parts of being the VP on the board for GRREAT is my role in acknowledging donations to the rescue. Each month, I read notes sent from our generous donors, and many times through both happy and sad/sympathetic tears, thank our donors while getting to know each one more and more. It is an honor to have this duty – to thank those who help us!

I recently become involved in horse rescue alongside my support to GRREAT. I hope to leverage ideas and new ways of doing business (such as event ideas, fundraising opportunities, community outreach) to continue to bring energy and thought leadership to the board position that I so deeply cherish. When first running for the VP spot in 2011, I wrote that “our animals are the best part of every day. The unconditional love that I have for them, and that they have for me is difficult to put into words.” I feel exactly the same today, and remain eternally grateful for the opportunity to volunteer with such a “GRREAT” organization.

Election of Officers
